Vocational qualifications in management

Designed with working people in mind where they can work towards a national standard in leadership and management. Combined with Training Matters unique style of delivery, which blends on line learning with a personal approach, this group of qualifications is proving to be extremely popular .The levels are:

Level 3 SVQ in Management is for first line managers who have decision-making responsibilities within defined limits and wider responsibility for people and their performance and also assess their knowledge and understanding of key management activities. It also gives managers an opportunity to develop their performance in their job to become more effective and to progress their career.

Level 4 SVQ in Management is aimed at middle managers with a wider span of control, greater accountability for performance and responsibility for determining resource allocation and operational methods.

Level 5 SVQ
in Management is aimed at those who are operating at a senior level in the organization with an input to making a difference at a strategic level.

Insititute of Leadership and Management

Award, Certificate and Diplomas

Each ILM qualification level has 3 levels within that qualification all designed to build up over time to the full qualification.

The ILM Level 3 qualifications in First Line Management have been specially designed to give practising or aspiring first line managers a solid foundation in their formal development as a manager.

The Award in First Line Management is a concise qualification which gives an introduction to the basic skills, knowledge, and understanding required by today’s first line manager. The mandatory unit in ‘Solving Problems and Making Decisions’ is designed to develop practical techniques for tackling managerial problems and decisions from gathering and interpreting information through to the effective communication of outcomes.

The Certificate in First Line Management builds and broadens the skills and knowledge gained in the Award. Here organisational change is explored along with the crucial skill of time management is also explored in three additional mandatory units. The Diploma in First Line Management develops a very comprehensive range of management skills, providing learners with the broad body of knowledge required by a first line manager. Additional mandatory units cover business communication, creativity and innovation for the workplace as well as information gathering and analysis, and managing customer service. All learners are able to choose from a range of optional units to build their qualification; this high level of flexibility allows individuals or their employers to custom build a qualification that focuses on the key areas most relevant to their role, industry or organisation.

The Award in Management is a concise qualification aimed at developing basic middle management skills and knowledge. The mandatory unit, ‘Understanding the management role’, examines organisational structure and function, the roles and responsibilities of middle managers and the effect of communication and interpersonal skills on managerial performance.

The Certificate in Management builds and broadens on the areas covered in the Award. Here, ‘managing improvement’ is explored, both in terms of organizational and personal improvement. ‘Developing the reflective manager’ concentrates on the analysis of personal strengths and weakness and how to work through problems using creative techniques. The crucial skill of ‘making a financial case’ is also explored.

The Diploma in Management develops a comprehensive range of basic middle management skills, assisting participants in gaining the knowledge required at this level. All participants are able to choose from a range of optional units to build their qualification; this high level of flexibility allows individuals or their employers to custom build a qualification that focuses on the key areas most relevant to their role, industry or organization.
